Designing your Dream....

.Sometimes out of something horrific comes beauty.
Fellow blogger Susan Lang recently sent me
her new book
Designing Your Dream Home: Every Question to Ask, Every Detail to Consider, and Everything to Know Before You Build or Remodel .

It is a workbook of sorts, that walks one through,
step by step and room by room
the process of designing and building a home.
Highly organized, she does not leave one stone unturned.
...But it is also thought provoking...
challenging you to really think about what you need in each room.
Then helping you to communicate that vision
to the whole team of architects, builders, designers, consultants.....

The crux of the book is organization...Susan not only reminds you to take the time to get organized...but walks you through step by step the process with forms , check sheets, to do lists, meeting notes and ticklers...
Right down to how many binders to keep, what to label them and how to keep them at your fingertips for which meetings!
She really does a lot of the tedious thinking about organization for you!
oh would I need that!
This was really helpful to see folks...and I am not even building a home.
...yet
Now for the horrific to beauty part...
Having survived hurricanes, and seeing the mass devastation firsthand,
even losing family members to Katrina's fury...
Susan somberly dedicates this book to the victims of Hurricane Katrina
with the hope of
renewal and rebuilding.

If you are balancing on that wonderful slippery slope of designing and building...

even if you just like planning for that time

check this book out.
only 16 clams...I have a feeling it will save you that much alone in
Ibuprofen.

Easily.

check it out here.....

Thanks for the tip on the book! We're looking forward to the day when we get to build our own house.

And the photos are fabulous. We're getting ready to remodel our house and put in a master suite. I might just go back and rethink our plans to try to get that last bathroom in there somehow. Wow!

Oh the mistakes I've made. We have built three houses from the ground up and are in the middle of a renovation. You learn with each one. Enjoyed the photos you posted. They gave me some new ideas.

Linda, thanks for talking about my book in your blog. Whether someone has made the decision to go ahead and build or remodel or it is a future dream, start using my book today! It will open your eyes to things you have not considered... when visiting friends or going on a home tour, you can pay attention to those particular details. Carry a tape measure with you... if, for example, you like the width of the hallway, the size of a bedroom, the height of a mantle, the size of an island, etc. measure it as most need to visual a measurement not just look at one of floor plans. These are some of the questions asked in the checklists in my books.
On my blog, I am providing photos I have either taken or have torn out of magazines or books to open your eyes to many of the choices you can consider along with pointing out mistakes to avoid.
My goal is once a homeowner has moved into their dream home or finished their remodel, they will not be saying "oh, I wish I had thought of that" or "I wish I hadn't made that mistake". Blessings to all. ...Susan Lang

PS I am commenting from Mississippi where I am visiting my two adorable grandsons!

Thanks for the book tip..., I love to hear about good books..., and I also love that fantastic wood table with all kinds of chairs around it -I'm always intrigued how non-matchy arrangements can work so beautifully.

Hi Linda! Sounds like a really good read! Wish I had had it about 6 months ago!! :-) Sounds like she was very thorough in her topics. So much to think about and an organized list is really important.
