Kids bath in Kitchen and Bath Magazine…

In the newstands I found mine waiting in line in Publix grocery store Is the newest edition

of Better Homes and Gardens Kitchen and Bath magazine

One of the features is our kids bathroom.

However…now it is decidedly a HIS bathroom…as the lone girl (willing to no longer share with three brothers) claimed a powder room as hers

Call me crazy, but I always wanted to put a urinal in a kids bath…3 boys…c’mon. Keeping it real.

Huge thank you to Becky the stylist and writer extraordinaire …and to Meredith Magazines for giving two of our bathrooms a little place in print!

Out to look for urinals…seriously.

The cashier didn’t seem too interested…::::yawn::::

Even my kids were like…hmm…cool. in a totally non excited voice when I showed them…

then kept on watching baseball. priorities. harumph.

IMG_9225

Well…I was excited...

.a big thank you to Better Homes and Garden’s Kitchen + Bath makeovers

and Becky…writer/stylist extraordinaire!

Maybe if I go tell Honey the hamster…I’ll find some excitement.

Because that is how this whole thing started…the little bugger escaped… got caught in the

wall from when we were tearing out the other bathroom

travelled all the way in the wall to the other end of the house…where days later we found

him scratching away at the wall. What could we do? But tear out the wall to save the hamster...

and start creating a new bath. no dummie here

No Hamsters were harmed…Honey went on to live a long (ish) happy life.

Check out the mag…especially if you are doing some re-muddling.

I was told our other bathroom remodel where Honey escaped into... will be in the Winter issue.

Do YOU see the monkey? I don’t…..really…I don’t.

Thank you Michelle from Just Imagine !

quick%20fix[1]

My husband

said husband that has a real fear of monkey’s…

could not tolerate.

He is sure a monkey is in there hiding…

somewhere.

maybe holding the toothpaste

or worse.

Me? I think it’s fun.

But….money may be better spent on therapy.

Monkey therapy.

Me thinks.

Thanks again Michelle and every one of ya’s that had an opinion

one way or the other…

smooch!

Thoughts on a bathroom?

Given: We live in the tropics. Well subtropics. close.

Given: I have a ton of bananas which are looking sad. Well actually dead from our freeze

Given: I am ready for some color in our bathroom that has been void of color for a reason

Reason: Prior to re-doing it it was FULL of color

I liked the breathing space break.

mbath

old pic…but you get the drift.

So…with bananas on my mind…I keep coming back to this wallpaper

which I almost ordered 10 years ago for another tropical home.

beverlyhillshotel

It is a BIG pattern…an old Hollywood classic.

I’m wondering how it would do

wrapped up in my bath?

or am I just missing my ‘nanas?

small changes....really small.

So...It is a wee small bathroom.
I wanted a bit more space for towels
or bathroom paper
or flowers and candles...
You know. The important things.

Excuse the wonky towels.
They tend to do that when I am not looking. OH!

Small bathrooms.
Ya gotta love 'em.
not.

Shower thoughts??

What d'yall think?
Right now the shower cutain in the kids bath is a textured
waffle weave, that I have a thick Linen pinned on to
(always planned on buttoning it on with big organic buttons...but...still just pinned)
Saw this when I was doing that teen room re-do...
Too themey?
Yes, no, maybe so???

hard to see the linen...but it is there. trust me.
other side...
old root holding towels...this is where the too much of
a
good thing could come in...

Oh... LOOK! the toilet seat is down. Miracle of miracles......Thoughts?

Any ideas???

So...
I would love a little help with this bath. This is another one we tackled last summer.
It also was a beauty in brown retro tile with harvest fixtures but enrobbed in a wallpaper that could only be described as tin foil with daisies painted on it.
This time... I found a gorgeous old Chinese Butcher table...which we, again, somehow found the courage to cut a hole in.

Lots of subway tile in the step down shower. Retrofitted a funky (once mirror) into a medicine cabinet. Here it is still "healing" from a broken door last year.

added our own river rock carpet in front of the vanity.

Painted it a warm white as a refreshing temporary change to the tinfoil.

But now what??

Sconces on each side of the mirror? A textured dark seagrass or bamboo shade?

Paint color, maybe?

A real bed for the big dog??? Anyone??

Would love suggestions. I'll give you a dollar.

Bathroom re-do...

Ok.

So, this is actually working. We did get some grouting done! Next, to the bathroom, to put the plumbing cover back on the wall in the closet. Heat from the attic is coming through. Boring, yes. But needs doing...and a year is long enough to procrastinate on it. Don't 'cha think?

How's about a little tour of the bath re-do, while I get that done?

It was a sad, sad bathroom. A beauty in harvest gold and broken tile...oh I wish I had a pic of the cheetah wallcovering that graced it too.
Here is the finished product (well, soon as that cover is put back on):

We found a gorgeous old altar table that we actually had the courage to cut a hole in...The wood holds up beautifully. Just use a bit of brixwax every once in ahwile.
replaced the old door with a frosted glass one. Instant light. Seagrass wallcovering (our little secret: Not real, but vinyl...you really cannot tell until you go to feel it).

put an old mangrove root on the wall to hold hand towels, or robes...or jeans...
Here she is in all her former glory. Now some of our hardcore retro friends (you know who you are) loved the old tile. We...not so much. plus it was damaged beyond repair.
We hired (read:made) our kids and their friends to "remove" the tile. Sledgehammers and only one little trip to the hospital ensued. Whoops. But they were good workers, and stuck through to the end. Our parenting philosophy: If they help build, maybe they will keep their towels off the floor.
Not so much. But we tried.
