Chairs…

chairs

As I listened to Bobby McAlpine on the Skirted Round Table this week

terrific interview…go listen if you haven’t. Run.

Something he said really resonated with me.

Chairs

chair

He thinks of chairs as people in a room.

Me too!

chair2

I am always pulled to chairs…like giant…or sometimes subdued personalities.

I have too many chairs

but I love them.

chair6

Every one of their funky souls…

chair3

now don’t these look like people….just hanging out…watching an event? See.

Maybe it is the singleness. The individual uniqueness…

Cause I don’t happen to have any matchy matchy sets. They are all unique…sometimes lost little souls. I collect vagabonds. Yep.

Maybe I am odd. Cross out the maybe. Go ahead.

chair5

But I’ll bet a dollar…..even a dollar fifty that you

have an affinity

for one type of furniture too?

spill people.

I wanna know.

Of course! Chairs are my favorite people...Phillip Starck's Ghost chair on top of my list. I've always had the same thought...chairs are like people.
Resonates with me alright!

Becky...I have been toying with getting a ghost chair...have the perfect spot. Then looked around at all my chair orphans...and thought Dayum. I have a lot of single chairs!

Not furniture but mirrors, I love mirrors, not for my reflection but for their light and sparkle. My mom has a thing for tables she has so many and no where to put them, Kathysue

Makes sense, really. Chairs have legs, arms, backs, etc... just like us. For me it's little cabinets, esp. that hang on the wall.

I love chairs myself!! I seem to have them everywhere- and most are in need of reupholstering! Although my second love is for art.. I love framed art!!

I adore pillows! There I said it. If I were a pillow I'd be big and soft and have lots of ruffles:)

Linda - thanks for your SRT shoutout! I loved this concept of chairs as people too! There's a photo in the book of a table and chairs that really illustrated that point.

My first love was chairs, all sorts of Louis XV and XVI-style chairs. But now I'm also in love with tables: side tables, consoles, writing desks, bedside tables, hall tables, etc. And I've given them all names: Ben, Esme, Louis, Emily ....

I like to call my obsession with all things furniture a passion...just rolls off the tongue a little sweeter-and I come out looking dynamic! I love anything 50's/bright colors/ but I am a sucker for chaise lounges and settee's.

Interesting comment by Bobby McAlpine, I recently wrote an Ideabook for Houzz on mixing chair styles and one image I included really struck me as intriguing. The way the chairs were arranged around the table they looked to be deep in conversation! Janell

Who doesn't love a great chair? I think many of us are born with the chair gene that simply must be satisfied. I do look around every once in a while and think things are a little chair happy. Afterall, most of the time, it's just me and the dog around here, and he prefers the couch.

I've never really thought of myself as having an affinity for one type of furniture, but your post made me realize that it's kitchen tables. They're always what I look at first in catalogs and furniture shops. Anytime I have to sit down, that's where I sit- at my kitchen table. Now to ponder why...

Enjoyed your post and look forward to visiting again soon!

Oh yes, chairs are quite wonderful! As are tables. I tend to accumulate more things that sit on shelves and hang on walls, but that is only because they take up less room than actual furniture, and often cost less!

ooooh! id love a spin off of that british flag chair for ians room.

La Petite Gallery said...

Yes, Old fashion Wing chairs.
They have to have the right curves
and low to the floor, and ball and claw feet. The back has to have
a certain sway to it. There is only a few I have seen around.

Also, a french Begere chair same
thing certain lines.

I adore chairs and I don't have any matching sets, I love them all to be individuals! But I think my number one favorite furniture would be tables...I love tables. And if a table has a drawer, I am over the moon! It is interesting how we all identify with something.

I absolutely love clear stuff, so when I looked up the Philippe Starck Louis Ghost Chair, I was in love. Wish I had more room in my home for chairs, mostly the clear ones!

I don't know if you follow blogs for the heck of it, but your avatar would match fabulously with the colors on my blog. Well that and it's lime and coconut! Score! =)

Sincerely and faithfully following.
