Do you like kitchen shelves?

4c9aa8cf2c69da91164514abf466a262

Me? Yes.

We have had them for decades…in several kitchens.

It seems to be the first thing I do…rip out cabinets. Put up shelves.

But

I find you are either a shelf person

Or not.

I am Playing with the idea of changing ours up a bit.

I like the ideas above

thick and substantial… no brackets

Instead of what we have going on…

‘scuse the mess…but our one wall has shelves held up by old house corbells…from

an old Key West cottage. Love the history. But  ready for a change.

I never painted them…always meant too, but just didn’t

and you can see the moulding…is cracked and looks…well cheap.

So give me your ideas….

Other side has some good ole IKEA metal shelves

Which have been fine….But perhaps ready for something more substantial. Or. Not.

Decisive is not my middle name on this.

Old pic

so…help a gal out with your ingenious and creative ideas…

please.

I love shelves. But in my new kitchen,I went with glass front cabinets.Shelves allow you to see what you have and you use it!

I love what shelves look like in everyone else's home but I cannot have them in mine...it makes me feel to closed in, like cluttered. Bookshelves do the same thing. I think I am too ocd!

I'm doing a few floating shelves like the white ones you show. I'm hoping it will be a little bit of a modern juxtaposition against all the old cabinetry. I've also considered the very industrial stainless ones but I don't think I'll find them in the sizes I want. I'm trying to move from the vintage junky to something a little more refined and austere. Trying.

Not only do I love them...I have them. Such an effortless way to put away & use dishes...think of how much time saved not opening all those cabinet doors. Only works if you can embrace simplicity ;)

I like them so much - but for a communal space where helpers & guests need to see where everything is to pitch-in without asking for directions.

I do WANT your brackets!!! Please don't paint them first. Let me know how much to pack and ship -seriously.

Yes, I love them! Great pics by the way, perfect to keep in mind for the house we would like to buy one day!

Yes, I like open shelving sometimes...I particularly admired some in a home where the contents of the shelves were REALLY simple. Purely one style of dishes. Purely utilitarian. What I dislike about shelves with doors are the knobs that gather grime and wear from constant opening and closing.

I do like the look of your metal shelves against the white walls and looks like they go well with the dishwasher and faucet. I think the thick white shelves would work also. I have never had open shelves but have a wall that I have thought of putting a couple of shelves on. I also want more drawers than cabinets.

I love open shelves but I'd spend all my time rearranging them - like I do my bookshelves!

I love shelves. Our modest kitchen upgrade will include a new section of lowers, with shelves above, and I'm really looking forward to them.

nope.
can't help.
i think they're perfect as they are.
first thing i did when i bought my little house... took off all cabinet doors. couldn't remove them. but at least i had my open shelves. white dishes. simple.
beautiful.
when i sold the house... they wanted me to put in new cabinets.
get real!!!
love the pictures. ALL of them!

I like them but I see everything that sits on them as dust collectors and I don't want to have to wash everything before I use it. Sorry I'm no help! You have great style, so no doubt you'l do something fab!
How's big dog? My kids have one - a small horse it seems! :)

Absolutely! I love the third photo, all white and classy. Seems like I have another idea how to make one in my kitchen. Shelves? Perfect! - Bali Hut Super Store

I have neither shelves nor overhead cabinets in my kitchen.
I love the clean sleek look, but if I had to choose, I would much prefer shelves.

I love thick wood shelves made to look old with or without brackets! I like the ones you have now as well but anything with patina pleases me!

the truth is…unless you are very neat and your kitchen is large and you have a pantry for the real things…they are great.. if you like the clean uncomplicated things… they tend to clutter space.

I loooooove open shelving. Maybe not for everything, but for stuff you use all the time like plates and mugs, it's great. We talked about putting them in our kitchen, but I don't think the layout would really work for it. Perhaps in the next house!
