Silent poetry…A tour of an artist’s home.

Painting from nature is not copying the object, It is realizing ones sensations
~Paul Cezanne

I had the privilege of being invited to the simple home of  brilliant local American Oil Painter
A tale of old Florida is woven through her art…
that is clearly
in part, inspired by her magical hidden compoundIMG_8406

I Love being able to piece together how creative genius live.
Theirs is a simple, authentic and quiet sanctum

led into by a sun kissed sandy road
canopied by old oaks, native palms….splashes of color

The 1950s structures ramble
and whisper of a partied and playful past….
Inside, tall ceilings allow  air to  play and breathe with light

like her art.

Most of their winding abode is left untouched
from the 1950’s
A bathroom with original sink tile…and jungle view jalousie window
authentic.

Like her art.

art and tools are everywhere

Outside… acres of tropical greens part, creating pathways through Florida hammock
And even the ubiquitous object becomes art and inspiration in this place...
like the old patina of a slate chalkboard leaning against a metal workshop
seemingly bleeding color together.

Or the  ancient cement pool

still enrobed in peeling layers of cool turquoise paint
cool relief in a sweltering summer

as a matter of fact, much of the bamboo furniture throughout the home was made or designed by Rene

walks through woods in this magical retreat….
you are bound to encounter families of  hidden sculptures
IMG_8500
that seemingly come to life in their own little green world
They overlook even more old beautiful Florida hammock dotted with grapefruit and citrus trees.
IMG_8503
and perhaps my favorite building on the compound
was an unassuming  air conditioned building
brimming and stacked with life

seemingly miles of Rene Guerin's

art and soul.
René's extensive exhibition history includes both solo and group shows at museums and galleries in Florida and Georgia. Her work is in many private and public collections including the Vero Beach Museum of Art, The Morris Museum of Art,the Foosaner Art Museum and the University of Florida.

Lucid beauty…

Somewhere near Joshua tree…In the high desert
was a 70 year old
fairly forlorn and sand worn shack
shack5
I hear  your collective design minds cranking…
shack6
I’M thinking…..Hey
we have one of those in our back yard.
cuz we do.
But…artistic genius Phillip K.Smith III
gave this tired old soul a  new and beautiful life
in this dry thirsty desert
shack7
The project was named Lucid Stead
Lucid…Indeed

and at night
oh at night…
shack14
Her colors joyfully soar…

Oh, Phillip….
We have this old tired barn
in the back……

Ya know….

When you make something that is delectable
but looks not so delectable?
yeah. me too.
Enter sage pesto on roasted veggies.
if you will
IMG_7967
My sage was taking off in the herb garden from a few weeks ago
The basil was looking downright shrimpy.
So….made a pesto from the sage.
Note: Breastfeeding mom’s do NOT want to eat sage. Decreases milk supply.
true story.
IMG_7973
then roasted some fresh from someone else's garden veggies…
IMG_7975
Then it got
ugly
IMG_7980
But dayum good.
yep.
:: Sage pesto ::
loose cup of fresh sage
1/2 cup of parmesan
3 TBSP of walnuts (or pine nuts)
1/3 cup of oil
Blend sage, parm and walnuts in blender or cuisinart….slowly stream in the oil. Blend till creamy.

Searching for a fireplace…

I Have long had an obsession love for

those vintage/retro metal fireplaces

Think ski lodge in the 70’s

or I do…cuz that is where we met

malm3

We even have one in the Casita…

and it is used many a night.

casitafireplace

Look how cozy….and this is just filled with Christmas lights.

malm4

But

lately….

I have been on the hunt for another.

for outside.

where we often sit by a fire. That is currently far less cool. Far less hip. far less ski lodge.

I would love this…

malm1

or this…

malm

Hello gorgeous…

malm2

Malm is still making these same fireplaces they developed in the 60’s.

They started out as a metal manufacturing company

and played around with designing fireplaces on the side.

Quintessential cool.

In my book.

But I am gonna keep on looking on craigslist.

Anyone have one? Or two?

Mark the date….2015!

I happen to have a love

for all things

Calendar.

hey it’s a new year….no?

I like to know where I am going…where I have been. And I prefer it on a wall

to a phone.

One that I have….and a couple that I want

you may too…

Linnea makes a beautiful artful calendar that I have been using, and gifting, for years

linnea-design-2015-7-470x600

It fits in an art frame….and it is always fun to see what month comes next

linnea-design-2015_wall_black-423x600

except when I forget to change it

for, oh, maybe a month…

Next….is an I want.

a phases of the MOON calendar.

Beautiful in it’s copper screen print on soft paper.

moon

Ain’t she purrrrrty?

Find this lunar baby right here at etsy

And for you kinestheites…..you know who you are

the touchers…the feelers…

A calendar of bubble wrap.

bubbble

at 40 inches it is long…so find a perfect wall, and pop the days away.

at uncommon goods

Go….get thee a calendar.

if ya want.

no forcing, it’s 2015.
