Ok…so how does one….

Hang plates on the wall so they look spiffy…not uniform…

probably not showing shiny brass looking hangers???

Hmmm?

I ask…because I have some plates…

Have a spot

kismet!

Now, on another tangent…answer me this

Don’t you think these raw B&W pics would curl at the edges?

Or do only mine do that?

Conspiracy?

***Postscript*** we recieved INSTRUCTIONS from Canadian House and Home how to do the photo wall...I love them..Yea them!!!

The plate patterns look exactly like drifts of shrubs with specimen understory trees.

Small & medium plates are the shrubs, largest plates are the specimen understory trees.

Exactly how plantings are drawn in landscape design.

I sometimes wonder the same things myself! It's as if the plates are secured to the wall using that Billy Mays Mighty Putty! Beautiful arrangement of plates, though :)

I too wonder how this is done. I like how the plates are cluster and the photos are floating on the wall. NIce Linda! When you find out the answer please share. xoxo

Not sure how they do that with the plates, but it has to be some kind of special hanger. The photos look awesome. My old B & W's do curl though. Maybe they are on thin mounting board and then attached to the wall. Just a thought

I saw a cute idea with plates...they stenciled each plate with a word to form: They said there'd be cake.

Check out Stephanie's blog (NieNie) in her archives for her old home in Mesa. She had her entire kitchen nook papered with photos of her children. They appeared to be completely glued on with some sort of photo safe product. Gorgeous. Milo is at Disneyland tonight! **blows kisses** Deb

I love the look of plates on a wall, but have never tried a display of my own...

Layla posted about the perfect plate hangers for you :) "disc hangers"

Your photos would curl because of the lovely humidity in our neck of the woods. Maybe that house is up North??

Love the collage of plate idea! PERFECT way to blend my hubbies china hand me downs with my eclectic style. I have a few raw photo collages on my walls that I change out a few times a year. I use sticky tack a tinsie bit on the corners - keeps them from curling. But you have an extra dose of humidity than we do in Atlanta... so you might need something more industrial grade! ;)

I have been collecting plates for that very same plan. I came across these funky sticky things that stick to the back of the plate and have a hanger so you don't see the "plate hanger". As for the B&W - I won't be much help.

I love the plates hung just "however". I am not one for symmetry (have to do it occasionally), and like things not necessarily centered! On those b&w's, what do you bet they are on some sort of backing!
Love your quirkiness...

I love the haphazard plates!! And yes, my photos of course curl as well...you are most certainly not alone.

i have my plates hanging higeldy-pigeldy up and over a doorway, but i don't mind the little brass thingys showing... i have since discovered those suction cups at the "lettered cottage" and will be looking for them...cause the kind iv'e been using make a little sound in the "spring" if one of these old floorboards bounces in this old house.

The plate pics - I read a statement once that is apropro. One rolling pin in the kitchen looks good. One hundred do not. It made me start thinking about my collecting and how I did not need 20 of the same thing, only a few for a collection. Maybe less is more.

I've been wondering the same thing! They must have been using dischangers.com like Lisa @ Abiding There mentioned. What a great product! I definitely need to go flea market hunting!! :D

The plates look very cute in the messy cluster! Tracey xx

that kitchen reminds me of my kitchen in nyc....when i was wild and young..

Ahhhh, those were the days!

but yes, i think something would happen to the photos on the wall.
*laminating & dry mounting them is the only solution that i can think of that would prevent it.

the plates look charming in both pics..but i'm not thingy oriented enough to do this. the pic idea would drive me nuts, too much small stuff..i'd opt for my favorite or (s) blown up on canvas..different folks, different strokes
BUT the inside of pic #2 has a gorgeous feel to it, love the natural elements and clean backdrop

I love that plate wall. It looks amazing.

I didn't read all the comments, Linda, so I don't know if someone has mentioned this. Rhoda did a post about some sort of hanger thing that attaches to the back of the plate. No wire showing. I'm afraid my wires are showing!! Oh No!! Anyhoo...you might e-mail Rhoda about the hangers. She's heading to the beach next week, but I think she's still around for now.

It's an art to make them look random & pleasing at the same time, isn't it? I'd probably choose whites, going for texture, but I really like the idea.

Your humid climate might make the photo display difficult. It looks as if they are mounted on a framed panel that is painted the same color as the wall. Love the plates that "Spill down the wall." No idea on how they are kept up there.

Looks like lots of glue...I have no problem with that :)

Rhonda Roo said...

Well, unless i superglued my plates to the wall, I am sure hungry musician boys who regularly plunder my kitchen would snatch them down for use. If they were eating some kind of foodage without crumbs, that is. If it had crumbs, they wouldnt bother with such silliness....

Oh my photos curl too....even with double sided tape all over them! I guess for me...I just accept it as part of the look:)

It's never as easy or as great as the magazines make it seem. But I sure love the idea. The plates were especially cute...all scattered like that.

Love the look, but I've never dared make so many holes in my wall. I think my Dad must have scarred me, as he was always yelling about that when I was a kid.

Beautiful plates, I agree with you on the brass hanger things- do you know how to hang with so those things dont show?

My photos curl too, glad to see H&H answered our questions :)

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I will definitely be using your etsy search method.

Those photos would totally curl!

Im not usually a plate on the wall person but that arrangement is fab.

Those are all lovely images...thanks

And regarding the plates? I've been wanting to hang plates for so long but not having dared yet for fear that it would not look as good as I see it in others:(

Hi Linda,

Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday to check on Milo and his adventures. He's such a fun boy bug to have around and such a joy ;-).

I was looking at your arrangement of plates and thought "ooh La la!!" Such a beautiful placement. My grandmother had walls and walls that looked like that. She used some sort of hanger that had little fingers holding the plates in place.
I hope you have fun if you try it!!

xoxo Cori

I was just going to use liquid nails on some in my guest bedroom. I know it will ruin the wall, but I figured I would just leave them when I move. I will be so old by then I won't care anyway. BTW, I just picked up my copies of Style At Home and Canadian House And Home while there. you just can't beat them eh?

Hello, I'm a little late to this, but i will share my experience. I worked as a display designer at Anthropologie, and i did a plate installation in the store using thrift store plates. I used 2-part epoxy glue with loops of twine to make a hook on the back of the plate, then just a small nail in the wall and slip the twine loop around it. The glue can be found at any hardware store. It is permanent, so don't use it on anything valuable!
