Prayer in the form of peanut butter. And chocolate.

pb 003

Everyone I know who has the disease chooses to live.

Vic chooses to live.

Determined, stately, strong. Spitting at the malevolent face of cancer.

Surviving.

pb 026

The man with the gentle puddle of soulful blue eyes.

Has the steel of a Vietnam Veteran behind them. A marine.

This propels him. His family propels him. A life-force field.

He lives.

pb 034

I?

I can cook…I can bake. Yes I can do that.

Peanut butter? Chocolate? Creamy?

Yes. I can do that. Happily…

as a gift of love. As a gift of strength.

I… don’t know close up how this beast preys. How it consumes . how it maligns

But wish

no pray…

That somehow the peanut butter and chocolate will be a magic tincture of good over evil .

pbchoc 001

The beauty…the therapy…in baking for a friend

is that each added ingredient has meaning…has memory

The mere whisking of ingredients is indeed prayer.

for wholeness.

for health.

for peace.

for hope.

And so I whisk...

Dum spiro… spero

From the Latin: As I breathe…I hope

What a loving and beautiful gift from your heart. If based on love and beauty alone, it should heal him instantly.

OK, I know you live in Florida, I have GPS and her name is Gabby. If I start driving now I might be able to make it to your house for the last bite, YUM. I already printed it and can't wait to make it. Peanut butter cups are my fav. What a great way to share your love to friends going through a difficult time. I will keep your friend in my prayers.

Hey Linda, just got back from visiting your friend...I'm already hooked. Lovely gift you made for them. As you well know, I simply cannot afford to gain another ounce, fearing the wrath of Wt. Watchers On Line...**blows kisses** Deb

What a SWEET post. Beautiful words and sentiment for your dear friend. Sending some prayers his way. That dessert looked amazing. You are not helping my "no sugar" resolve.

beautiful post linda. got me teary. (and hungry!) last night i just spooned some peanut butter in a bown & poured chocolate syrup all over it...

Not that great bc it was smart balance peanut butter & generic/ runny chocolate... i am normally not a complainer but really... we've gotta get some better stuff in this house!!! ;)

A lovely, delicious gift to your friend. I have had several friends struggle with cancer this past year. It is a helpless feeling, and sometimes all we can do is bake or cook for them. It makes everyone feel better, at least for a little while.
Hope your story has a happy ending.
