Little and kinda funky laundry re-do…

…But first

a word from our sponsor

that would be me

I%20HATE%20LAUNDRY%20ROOMS

No…I didn’t do this, nor is it in our laundry room

But Ohhhh if it were.

I tackled what I thought would be an easy peasy spiff up to our laundryroom/back door.

I had the wood {ish} flooring waiting for awhile in the garage.

I used mexican tile on the counters. That was once many moons ago going to go in the kitchen.

I found a cabinet in the as is dept at IKEA for 50 clams

…and so I started…

and here is where I end up…

IMG_4788

I painted the side of the cabinet in blackboard paint…to the left is the door

to the garage. In case you really care.

Added shelves attached from the cabinet to the wall…to create more storage and somewhat of a nook

for the washer and dryer. When that dryer dies and goes to dryer Heaven which it will...soon.

we'll get the dryer brother to the washer...then build a counter on top...and maybe even doors or a skirt...or neither. keepin' ya on your toes.

Inside the 50 clam cabinet…

important stuff. Toilet paper and rubber gloves?

don’t ask.

IMG_4790

Even found a good place for my house numbers I brought back from Argentina…

i was on a roll…

IMG_4744

Then…inspired by our old madge coathangers

I decided to dabble in a little bit of an orangey red. Mai Tai by Ralph Lauren Paints

I was told I shouldn’t….

IMG_4749

IMG_4751

But I did

smack dab on the new door from

Home Depot….40 clams….run to your nearest…see if they are still

there!

the doors were 369 if special ordered….they had tons for 40 buckaroos.

yeppers.

IMG_4762

added a couple of cute barn lights.

I needed help with one….but

installed the ceiling light

and the house is still standing. Can I have an Amen!

IMG_4767

Oh…rug was a 5 buck steal at IKEA…won’t last forever

but am loving the punch of color!

IMG_4783

Um. The mosaic is what happens when you don’t measure your tile correctly

and you like to fly by the seat of your pants

and then you find an old rusted metal bird in the garage

and you just stuff him in too.

because.

IMG_4773

yeah, yeah…need to re-paint the cabinets and maybe change out the knobs

and…

IMG_4794

Oh yeah.

do some laundry.

maybe.

**I need to go round up some befores...then you might be a teeeensy bit impressed. At least I was. Teensily.

Linda,

The laundry room looks great!!!! I love the doors, both of them! Where is the other pineapple painting? I thought you were going to put it in the laundry room?

Just took some pics of my 'art' work that you inspired me to do and will send if they turn out.

Oh my gosh, it looks FANTASTIC! I think the little bird in the mosaic is my favorite part of the whole place, but I also really dig the pops of orange and other colors. Let me know when you want to come do mine!

What a fabulous laundry room! So much fun and lots of personality. I'll be right over - to borrow that ironing board, of course :) By the way, it's a vintage board, made of red metal tubing with an off-white cover. And it's chunky - the top is wider and shorter than normal. It was a vivid dream ,I tell ya! lol. xo

I am in love with your laundry room! I dream of having a room so large and function to laundry in some day!

I AM impressed--you don't need the before pictures (although they'd be fun to see).

Don't ever tell anyone again that that bird and the mosiac were kind of accidental. It's the best part of the whole room.

You did a great job.

Wow, cool job on the laundry!! My favorite part is the red door and the instruction to Be...oh, to BE in your laundry room!!!

Laundry is a four-letter word! I hate it, too. But if I had a room as bright and cheerful as yours...and a door to the outdoors(!), I might be more inspired. My L room seems to be the catch-all for everything that has no place to go. After seeing yours, it might be the next project...
Love that bold rug. I must head to IKEA this week!

I LOVE IT!!!!! I totally loved the blackboard paint...what a great idea! Your laundry room looks like a great and fun place to hide from the world! Hide in the room and lock the laundry OUT! sounds good to me!

You did!!! Am very impressed with how much you accomplished yourself and on a small budget too (aren't these the best make-overs?). That mosaic is genius.

Gwen Driscoll said...

I love it. The happiest most charming space ever. I can't believe you did all that yourself. I would be a total disaster! Especially love the coat hangers, I've got a 9 year old red-head!

I wish not acquiesce in on it. I assume warm-hearted post. Especially the appellation attracted me to be familiar with the intact story.

Well I love it!!!! The bird stuck in just ...because....could be my favorite. I think I actually would not mind doing laundry there. Maybe

Mango Gal said...

The laundry room looks goooooorgeous my friend! Love it! I love the chalkboard cabinet, the bright red door, that amazing little mosaic with the bird. Beautiful!

One day I would love to have a laundry room. I dread going into my garage to do laundry...it's scary in there.

Maya @ Completely Coastal said...

Amen! It's looking awesome! And your laundry room has access to the beautiful outdoors!?

And this one is quotable:
"The mosaic is what happens when you don’t measure your tile correctly." You should collect these in a design wisdom folder!

Have a great weekend, Linda.

Thanks a bunch. Now I have to go to the dungeon to do my laundry. I will be down there staring into space picturing your bright beautiful laundry room and I will tell myself "don't worry Cinderella, you too will have a nice laundry room one day". Sniff.

Laundry Room Looks Amazing. I had no idea that Ikea had the ''as is'' section. I will be checking it out really soon.

Love the mosaic even if it happened because of a miss measuring mistake. I just love mistakes!

My favorites are the baskets with the numbers - love them! Of course, the colors are wonderful and happy and might make doing laundry more fun, too!

Wow. If I had a laundry room like that I might actually wash BF's clothes more often! Hee! I love everything about it...from the door to the floor. What's the deal with the floor...did you say "wood(ish)"?

Love the redo. Would you like to do mine? I love Mrs. Meyers products. I get the geranium scent as it reminds me of my youth for some reason. She even has laundry soap and softener. My clothes smell so good.

just adorable. love your whole house too! and the guest house (my fav)

Thanks you all...and it IS working. Laundry IS getting done....and more importantly put away! This week...anyway.

The floor is actually ruber like product...it doesn't stick to the floor...but sticks to itself. The important thing is it's completely impervious to water. I didn't want more cold tile...so gave it a try. It is called traffic master allure...put it in myself (with some help from my daughter and a straight edge)In a few hours.

I really like what you did. It looks so effortless. I am aiming to spiff up my laundry room. I am renting so I am not re-doing the floor or buying new doors but will paint and change knobs. Yours is inspiring!

So...I think I would just hang out in there ALL DAY and wait for someone to bring me a dirty article of clothing to wash because yesterday I would have already done ALL the laundry because I would have just hung out in there all day yesterday too so today I would just be waiting for someone to bring me something to wash. All it needs is the coffee pot and I would never leave. Never. Just BEAUTIFUL!
