Attending births is like growing roses. You have to marvel at the ones that just open up and bloom at the first kiss of the sun but you wouldn't dream of pulling open the petals of the tightly closed buds and forcing them to blossom to your time line. ~Gloria Lemay, Midwife.
I am allowed the privilege….responsibility… honor and sanctity of attending births.
Usually human.
And while it is on my bucket list to attend…or rather, be witness to…a horse birth.
I never seem to make it.
And in the end, that is perfect.
I am convinced they do it better without an audience.
I’m quite convinced we do to.
This early morning I missed another beautiful birth of a friends mare…by minutes…maybe an hour.
They didn’t need us at all.
Little man…Marengo… has a strong and beautiful road ahead of him.

Very sweet photos.
Gorgeous photos...the wonder of life.
Beautiful babies.
The mystery of life always captivates me.
That beautiful mare!
I think the only photos of newborn horses we usually see must be old, as they have looked more plump. How many calories must horse milk have in it to fatten the babies so quickly!
He's a beaut too. :-)
I agree Linda...Today he does not have the ribs showing. And he is only almost two days now!
