Painting from nature is not copying the object, It is realizing ones sensations
~Paul Cezanne
I had the privilege of being invited to the simple home of brilliant local American Oil Painter
A tale of old Florida is woven through her art…
that is clearly
I Love being able to piece together how creative genius live.
Theirs is a simple, authentic and quiet sanctum
led into by a sun kissed sandy road
canopied by old oaks, native palms….splashes of color
The 1950s structures ramble
and whisper of a partied and playful past….
Inside, tall ceilings allow air to play and breathe with light
riddled with playfulness and whimsy.
like her art.
Most of their winding abode is left untouched
from the 1950’s
A bathroom with original sink tile…and jungle view jalousie window
authentic.
Like her art.
Pool Party 24x30
art and tools are everywhere
Outside… acres of tropical greens part, creating pathways through Florida hammock
And even the ubiquitous object becomes art and inspiration in this place...
like the old patina of a slate chalkboard leaning against a metal workshop
seemingly bleeding color together.
Or the ancient cement pool
still enrobed in peeling layers of cool turquoise paint
cool relief in a sweltering summer
old florida pool 36x48
night pool 8x10
Inside a screened summer studio are doors made with bamboo
as a matter of fact, much of the bamboo furniture throughout the home was made or designed by Rene
A small apartment on the property houses another working breathing art studio
rife with pottery and Oil paintings
some finished…
some in progress
walks through woods in this magical retreat….
you are bound to encounter families of hidden sculptures
that seemingly come to life in their own little green world
They overlook even more old beautiful Florida hammock dotted with grapefruit and citrus trees.
and perhaps my favorite building on the compound
was an unassuming air conditioned building
brimming and stacked with life
seemingly miles of Rene Guerin's
heart and
art and soul.
René's extensive exhibition history includes both solo and group shows at museums and galleries in Florida and Georgia. Her work is in many private and public collections including the Vero Beach Museum of Art, The Morris Museum of Art,the Foosaner Art Museum and the University of Florida.
Enjoy viewing much of her work here

I love artists' homes. They always have a cool vibe and the best "things." This one has some great mid-Century details too. It must have been a treat to visit.
Never heard of that artist and what a treat to see her studio/home and gardens. I fear I'd never get anything done there; too busy looking about.
Very cool vibe! And that cement pool color was so fabulous and happenstance. The water was like crystal gin. fed by an artesian spring. Thanks for looking!
Wonderful tour!! Love the house, and her artwork is fabulous. That pool is perfection.
xxoj.

Thank you for sharing!!!
This was amazing...taking us inside the home of a gifted artist and seeing her inspiration...what a lovely home.
Wow, what a trip! And to see the house reflected in the paintings...thanks, Linda!
Love this home! It has patina and soul. So much better than some of the plastic mega mansions that are built today. Beautiful art - a life well lived!
