So...there she was in all of her thirty dollar glory
Sitting, well kneeling... alone
in the Habitat for Humanity store.
Clay. I am fascinated with Santos and ex votos, milagres...
Handmade for purpose...with reason.
In Mexico, an ex voto is most commonly a personal thank you note
to God,
often taking the form of folk art.
I left her at the counter as I shopped...Then later was concerned that someone else would
scoop her up and buy her as I browsed old windows, and broken tile!
Then I realized that probably not many people saw the beauty in her
that I did.
I'm pretty sure I saw one old couple actually laughing

The closet! LOL I think she was a wonderful acquisition. I used to have an old japanese man lamp that I just loved but sadly I tripped on his cord and all the king's horses and all the king's men could not put him back together again.
You should open your home for tours . . . I'll be first in line!
Linda, I LOVE her! Not only is she gorgeous, but the stand and the shade- Wow! And at the Habitat for Humanity store? I want one of those!! What a wonderful find! I'm so happy for her and for you! I love it when they call your name, don't you?!!
I too love santos and milagres!
And DD.... little does she know that one day she'll be begging you for her!! (I know such things from experience!)
As one of my friend's says "you like what you like!!" Not something I would pick out but hey...
If it makes you happy...then that's all that matters!!
She is wonderful- you need more support from your family about your wonderful design sense LOL
what a great find. looks very rustic and seems to fit right in at your hacienda. Yay :)
Dear Linda, you MUST come to Brasil and have a churrasco (barbecue) at Zozô, in Rio de Janeiro. You will LOVE the decoration, with lots of santos and milagres. I made a post A beleza do Rio de Janeiro, http://abelezadetodasascoisas.blogspot.com/2008/06/beleza-do-rio-de-janeiro.html, in wich I used 2 pictures from Zozô.Hope you like!
Have a nice week, dear!
A stunningly beautiful art form! I love it. Remember all art is in the eye of the beholder. Great find! Kim
Ana of Brasil...we DID eat at that churrasco in Rio!! Beautiful! I wish your blog would update on my blog role...but it doesn't. I LOVE yours!
Bridget...even with crazy glue? No way no how? Awwwww.Poor ole japanese guy.
Lisa...just HEE.Don't hold your breath! (but thanks for the support!)
Oh boy, Joan....I kinda would like to remind her how much she will love it!
Simple Daisy...and THAT is exactly what makes the world go round so beautifully!!
Shoozles...ya know...I really have GREAT support. They complain for a bit (all part of the game) Then they say...yeah, you were right. Usually.
I like to think I know how to bend too...I think they do it better, though.
Eye of the beholder...THAT is sooo my mantra, Kim!!
Thanks all...love hearing the good...the bad...and the ugly.
Bring it on!!
LOL Your daughter is a hoot! I love the lamp, though, and she fits in perfectly in your home.
I LOVE her....after 30plus years in SoCal and all that Mexican influence I appreciate the work. I had clients who had lived for years in Mexico and had many, many things from that time in their lives and it was there I first learned how to marry it all......but ,alas, they moved to Vero.
Linda- I love old South and Central American Clay too and vintage wooden things from Mexico! I also love your birthing chairs too! What a steal and she so deserves a place in the lime light and not the closet. LOL...
Very nice to place the hand near her! A great conversational piece.
Perfection, Linda!!!!
I love santos and devotional objects in the house.
Your little beauty is wonderful!
xo xo
I had to come check out your blog since apparently we both have Synesthesia (I was reading Pure Style Home). I LOVE the lamp by the way, I would have bought it too.
Your new "lady" looks great in your house! I've never heard of a Habitat for Humanity store.....we do the house builds here but never heard of a store! :)
Linda, I LOVE your style!
Love the lamp. What a great idea!
Oooh! What a great find! Nancy
I love how you wrote this. . . just lovely. Luckily when your daughter or husband has an opinion you get to say "I'm sorry, have I seen your work somewhere?" :)

Susan...Yes it is a GREAT store whose proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity. Many builders items...tons of doors windows ties, appliances and furniture. I have found some real goodies there.
Colour me Happy... LOVE that line. Must remember to use it!!
Renee...Oh sounds like a great gig!! Yes...my powder room sink is from San Miguel. We have made a few trips to Brasil, where I had fun finding relics.
Thanks for all of your support. She is in the foyer. And smiling...
Be glad that I wasn't there - you wouldn't have that lamp Linda, it'd be proudly atop my secretary in the sunroom! When you're tired of it - hand it over, along with that table I love so much! :)
hahaha your daughter has your sense of humor! really beautiful
You've find the neatest things - our thrift store is pretty bare right now. I love your eclectic mix. :) And how funny that your daughter said "the closet". ;)
What a wonderful find! I did crack up at your daughter's comment, though. Funny girl!
LOLOL ... the closet... I have a teenager just like that here. Oy!
I love your ex, I think she's just beautiful - and I love that you shop at the habitat for humanity store.

she is perfect for your eclectic mix~ your daughter cracked me up!
She almost looks like a runaway Diana Ross...she's saying "Stop in the name of love...I have a lamp shade on my head!"
Quirk belongs in any household- it puts people at ease...
Great piece -she's a lovely addition to your home.
you have a great eye!!!I paid $125.00 for a piece for my clients collection..
