Flotaki dreams…or is it flokati…

I was lucky to have studied abroad in

Paris as a college student.

When I finally came home...

My giant suitcase was stuffed with some new and very French clothes…shaggy sheepskin boots

and

a big Flokati Rug wrapped around many bottles of red wine.

flo4

amazing suitcase, eh...and not one bottle broke!

My french prof…whose apartment I would occaisionally study, in had a giant flokati….

and this was the epitome of Parisian chic…in my 22 year old mind.

flo5

I had the rug for years…even got some great bare bottomed baby shots of my kidlets on it.

well…

I think

I’d love one again.

Am I nuts? Is it dorm decor? Will it be covered in unsightly black dog hair?

thoughts?

Your little rug reminded me of my granddaughter. I think she was 4 at the time. She came over to where I was babysitting and in one room there was a rug like this. She looked at me with those melting eyes and said, " Can we Grammy." Off went our shoes so we could fell that rug under our feet. It was a moment for sure. Enjoy your rug.

Go for it! I think that rug would be so much FUN to have...so what if it collects the beach sand or dog hair. Shake it...beat it the old fashioned way. Just enjoy....

I say go for it too. I think this is a classic and you'll never be sorry. Just vacuum up that dog hair!

Well. My philosophy is, in every room there should be: a little color, a little white; a little earthy something, a little shiny bling, a little texture, and a little fur. or velvet. but velvet carpet isnt cool. so i am voting yes for flokati.

whether you choose to pose bare ended on it though, is completely up to you. (wink)

Not nutz, maybe a little crazy with that big loveable feller you have in your home! Get a new vacuum and go for it!

Renae...timely! we just had to get a new one. Our old one bit the dust, after 6-7 years. We got the same one. Not sure if that was a good idea or not.

PLUS...the garage door just broke in half. Oh joy. planned obselesence. Ya gotta love it (or NOT).

Oh Rhonda Roo...You gave me a huge guffaw laugh! NO ONE wants to see that...I am quite sure. But you are so spot on about all the other elements. As I see it, it would cover the white, earthy, texture and fur (eh...black dog fur counts? yes).

Jane and Karen...ok...that works...ok...this might work...maybe kinda.
Maria Cecelia...well you've got me there...COLD it is not. Oy.

Be mystified...I hear ya...I do, and KJ too! Just do it.

But I seem to be slow on the buy button.

Debby....I think I can see the little toes. Adorable!

I love ALL of your thoughts, Have I told you how much I love ya!!!

I think the rug sounds like a fabulous idea and you have a way of making everything look hip and stylish. I think the dog hair would just add character!

PS I am so relieved none of your bottles of red wine broke en route and got all over that rug. What a mess that would have been! (Not to mention the loss of the French wine!)

Flokatis are fun anytime...I remember them being a hit in the 60s...then they appeared at IKEA a couple decades later and now my daughter has one in her bedroom chair...tempting. Recently, I was tantalized by the contrast of a small flokati floating over the back of a Phillipe Starke Ghost Chair. I have the the Ghost Chair already...next stop at IKEA might mean that I pick up a sexy little flokati. :) Do it!

its a softness (comfort ) thing. i had one as a teenager when i lived in iceland, and we have a new one from the homeland (iceland) which we drape over a chair for snuggling in the winter. also have two bed pillows with long fur which come out in winter.

Hi - I'm a first time visitor. I definitely like what I see, and will be back...
As for the rug - go for it! If you style it like in the pictures you have shown there is definitely no hint of "dorm chic".

On Friday I would have been for it 100%, but after spending many hours on Saturday with the vacuum trying to remove tiny little gray dog hairs out of my carpets I might change my mind! Of course, you could always exchange the big black goofy great dane for a big white goofy great pyrenees! ;)

I had a roommate in college from Beirut and she had a flokati...always find them exotic and wonderful.

black dog hair..of course! but what is a house without a layer of dog hair?

I was entertaining a Flokati thought recently Linda. I really was. I also thought about Molly and the hair. Anyhow, I am still entertaining the thought, but I have an idea I won't buy a Flokati or Flokati lookalike.:-) I visualized it in our room at the lake..I could just see that unexpected Flokati at the end of the bed, by the dresser in that lakeside cottage bedroom!
