~Give me some sugar, baby
Do you have *favorite* houses you drive by in your town?
You notice them, watch them grow…wonder what they look like inside? Try to cop a peek when you drive by at dusk?
No, you don’t? oh.
I admit it. I have a collection of them. And have a particular affinity for the old ones…the cottages…the gems. The saved old souls…The sugar.
This is one of them. I’ve driven by this one so many times thru the years…
It was a rainy, dreary day when I first stepped inside….but this little beauty built in the 30’s was gracious and glowing.
I dare say , smiling.
(original Dade county pine floors}
Any one else may have bulldozed it 20 years ago…
Once covered in overgrown hedges with holes in the ceiling that looked up to the clouds.
But it was safeguarded and lovingly preserved by a local family
And it was infused with warmth and soul…while retaining most original fixtures.
{I love these Hansel and Gretel windows and screens}
Lee Ann has a beautiful eye with a southern flair Think Garden and Gun…While talented husband Gene, an avid hunter/sportsman, did much of the work in this beautiful old soul.
Kids art is everywhere. Family first in this sugar shack….Two beautiful daughters have an imprint in every room.
And while the kitchen was broadened and opened…
the living space remains as it was originally
…and like any good cottage it isn’t linear. But quirkily moves and trips from room to room
With 5 panel doors and original hardware…loved that part
Hidden corners house daybeds. Cozy. sleep inducing. Particularly on this grey day.
Reminded me of summer camps. I think I counted 6 beds…
{adorable little mini rooms around corners…off larger rooms}
Outside was added a pool and sweet outdoor shower
One of the family’s favorite spots is what once was a car vestibule…
Turned outdoor dining room. Hugged in bougainvillea. Dinner under the stars happens here quite regularly.
Charming.
Another fabulous feature is the neighbors home….Wine glasses in hand, we traipsed over to meet a hidden gem of a house with a famed and perhaps even bawdy history.
Think elaborate ballrooms and parties galore…Butlers bells in each room.
A rare look into the history of this town…
…and Archie
But that will be a WHOLE oth.er post. Stay tuned.
Also stay tuned for Talented Lee Ann’s soon to be released Blog.
Go.
Tour your own town under the discreet cloak of dusk….find a gem….a sugar shack.
Then barge in and take pictures.
Dare ya.

Let's say we do know of a . . . "friend" . . . who also likes to drive by certain homes and slow to try to get glimpses of the insides . . . it's almost an invitation by the owners, should they happen to leave the blinds open and the curtains pulled back, to gawk away . . . right? ? ? ;)
Willow's Quiet.....Of COURSE. I am with you. wink.
LOve this house!! Such charm and personality... oh, and wine!:) I'm a peeper too;) Luckily my getaway driver, Coolio, understands when I yell "slow down, I'm trying to look!"
Hope you are well my friend!

What a really cool place! The floors alone make my heart race. And that kitchen - wow! Lucky lucky you that you got to tour it!
Linda, I've driven by that house many a time and wondered what it looked like inside, too! LeeAnn is such a sweet person and, obviously, has great taste. Thanks so much for sharing!

They've done a great job on this house. All of the details are perfect. I especially love the similar colors they've used through the whole house.
Such a beautiful home! Thanks for sharing a glimpse inside. I especially LOVE the farm table and bench on the porch.
Wonderful house tour.....I'd rather live in this beauty than any new home!
Enchanting, Linda. And I must say, so in sync with YOUR style! (little surprises around every corner, curious collected bits and pieces, family treasures)
what a treat was that!!!
only thing missing....
a gorgeous big black dog on a sofa
thanks!
Spectacular!! You can just feel all the love in this home! I'd have a hard time leaving if I ever got to step inside for myself! Thank you for sharing!
Adorable nothing beats old houses!
Wow....another lovely home you have visited and taken us along with you.
It was charming and with a loving family who seem to love it a whole lot.
Double bonus....having a peek at the house next door too.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!!
What a spectacular cottage. It feels so warm and homey.
Florida is a feast of these fun finds. I took more pictures in two weeks than all year long. I can't take the dare because I'm back home. My friend didn't stop driving long enough for two many inside shots.
This place is fabulous hope you enjoyed your visit. Did you swim?
This was so much fun! I love the bits of nature brought inside everywhere! Thanks for the tour!
Absolutely wonderful!
