Garage sale blues…

Well…not so much blues…more like greyand exhausted.

garage sale 005

I’m not good at garage sales…I know this...But it was time for one.

Usually we just give away…but too much accumulation. And some $ would be nice.

The prob is, we don’t go to many sales…so frankly, never know how to price things.

Then…I’m usually just so happy something is going to a good home…

that I practically give it away.

garage sale 007

The sale started at 8:00am….and by 8:20 am we were ready to cut prices in half

told you… not so good at garage sales

garage sale 006

Actually most of the good stuff was gone by 9:00 am…

Including My mothers digital camera…tucked neatly in it’s bag with all the cords/instructions and accessories

That someone stole out of the bag!

C'mon people! Really?? At a garage sale? !

garage sale 003

There was one guy, however….who was watching the comings and goings from the safety of his barn.

The kidlets that cameloved to play with him

But no one took him and his barn home…

sigh

garage sale 016

…On to Craigs list…or Ebay…

double sigh

garage sale 026

Anybody have some tips ??

Yep, the shoplifters are everywhere, including garage sales. We always recruit family and friends, with "security" in mind.

I'll tell ya what Linda...I would have taken the pony and barn home and lots of other stuff. You had some great things there!!

Love those adirondecks. They would look great somewhere in the condo!

wow..shoplifting at a garage sale... I can't believe it has come to that... sorry to hear that..I was in retail management for 16 years..and boy oh boy..the sense of entitlement the theives have is really amazing...

You have fabulous treasures.. I would have loved to buy the adirondak chairs!!!

as for the barn..I would donate it to a children's shelter or a batter women's shelter so that kids that go there will have something fun to play with... mu 2 cents!

Wish I'd been there! I love that horse and his barn. I saw pieces of furniture to swoon over. And the Adirondacks! I would have loved to have those. Can't believe someone was so tacky as to steal the camera. Low, that is truly low.

Ooh, I'd get an artist to paint that barn in weathered, sandy colours and use it for a nativity scene at Christmas. But then, I'm a bit quirky.

wow...what great treasures you had for sale..i would have happily shopped if i was closer (i especially love the floral chair!) how dissappointing, indeed, to have someone stealing!! i am appalled. hope to see more pics from your vacation?

What a timely post! The husband and I were just in the workshop going through things. Big things left over from the remodel will go on Craig's list next week, and we'll spend the winter going through everything else for a big garage sale in the spring. We have too much junk!

That is an AMAZING barn!!! I agree with others that you should keep for future grandchildren. Or I like the idea of donating it to a women's/children's shelter, but it seems too beautiful to part with. And I would have snapped that saddle up in a minute (except for that small detail about I have a horse that I never get to ride)!

Linda!! My daughter ADORES Horses, what such a shame we are in London!

The horse and barn are adorable. I would have loved that during my childhood horse craze. Wish I had been at your sale!!! I love those chairs!!!

Don't you just hate
"shoplifters"! At a recent networking luncheon, with 50+ "professional" women, I had items lifted from my display table...a bag of samples and a travel-sized pack of natural health products. ($40 in products!) All I can say is that I hope whoever felt the need to steal really needed these remedies.

I can't believe someone stole your camera! Do you have any close friends or nieces or nephews you could pass that cute horse onto? It is fun to give people you know things so you can see others enjoy them.
Garage sales are a lot of work.

Oh dang, you should have called me! I love to have garage sales and we'd always make 1,500-2,500! I'd have pre-sale parties with wine and beer! I was always amazed how 25cent and 50cent things would keep adding up. I had a neighbor who asked where all this stuff came from, and did I have another house somewhere?!!
You had great things, hope you made lots of money (sorry about the camera.) I "caught a womann stealing something once and literally followed her down the driveway and grabbed it back! The nerve.
I LOVE that horse barn-can't believe no one bought it. How much ya asking for it?! I have two new grand/great/one-removed? nieces and nephews-- what do you call your niece/nephew's children?

No tips, but I saw about ten things I wanted to buy! :-)

It WAS so hot...even at 8:00am!!

I like the ideas about donating...and about keeping. It is sooo big and has to be put together...May pose a problem for a shelter or a Hospital.

Thanks for all of your comments!

The best post EVA!! :) Except for the part about the lifted camera...I hate that. I need to have a sale...I.Just.Don't. Wanna.Do.It. I would much rather go...been finding lots of treasures lately. Glad you arrived back home safe and sound...been devouring all your pics, especially the ones with the dogs. Love, hugs and all that. :)

I have a few items stacked away for a garage sale... waiting to have a community sale to have lots to sell.

I love those chairs. Do you still have them? I believe you are in MIA too... if you have them, and are in MIA, let me know... willing to buy. THANKS!

That horse looks so lonely.
My daughter has a large collection of them that she's outgrown and it makes me so sad. She would have adored that barn years ago. My husband built her a similar one.
I'm sure there are other horse crazy young girls ou there who would appreciate it.

love that horse HA! When I had my last garage sale, I wa slike you at first I really did want/need a little dinerito but by 11am I was ready to give it all away and I basically did. I was happy though, b/c it made downsizing to the villa easier.

PS If I had been at yours I would have left with a lot of goodies I am sure!

Thanks for the update on the chairs. For some reason I thought you were further south... oh well. Hope you have better luck selling on eBay and Craigslist. =)

My friend had her beautiful golden retriever dog stolen from her garage sale a few years ago. So, yeah, people will take what they can get. (They never got her back.)

Linda-- how big is it? I know a 5 year old girl and her 8 year old brother in Pt. St. Lucie who would love the horse and its barn... ;)

Nice stuff, great pics. As for some help, I have recently written an article about how to execute a successful garage sale. Hope it helps you. Don't worry, with each try your garage sale will get better.
