Travelling virtually to the other side of the world
I found talented and inspiring interior designer Laurie Owens
Love her use of organic, from the earth materials
She has designed many safari lodges throughout the continent of Africa
I am such a sucker for the simplicity of these bathrooms
They strike me as
meaningful for the spirit
beautiful for the soul
and nurturing for the body.
…and just plain ‘ole cool
Her work tends to remind you of exactly where you are…
using items from the earth
each place she designs.
Sticks and stones
flickering light
liquid turquoise.
Think I’ll stay awhile
Find Laurie’s work here
Find the Singita Lodge here.
Carry on.

Oh My! That bathroom is amazing. I can see the most perfect wedding reception being held with those twinkling lights and white tables. I love simple things and the textures shown are so pleasing to the soul. Wonderful photographs.
We should all live this way! These spaces look so inviting. Beautiful post Linda.
Oh wow! Wanna meet me in Africa later? That sure beats a mud hut with a thatched roof! {Although, I'm up for that, too.}
Hee. Suzann...I first read your comment as "I could see the most perfect wedding reception held in the bathroom" and I thought. Hmmm,to each their own I guess. I laughed out loud when I re-read it!
Thanks RY....you've never been? You are so darn well travelled!
Lisa...I hear ya, I'd take a mud hut too. I sooo want to get to Africa with camera in hand!
Am so excited to say I am going for three weeks - end of August. Doubt that we'll be anywhere this fab - but it will be amazing.
Love those designs. You know I'm a sucker for nature inspired decor. The rooms have such a calming feel.(big sigh) Ok, so we have three that are up for a trip to Africa. Let's all meet Mary there.

linda...
love the simplicity-
love the mingling of raw materials with modern furnishings-
love detail of cut tree as
trays in the bathroom-
love that good design taste is carried somewhere so wild and natural..
especially since i'm searching for lodging for a long weekend trip to nc...cabins in mtns are kinda icking me out! hello, tasteful and clean anyone?
I love her designs! They make you feel like your in an uber chic tree house! LOL
So many textures...I've gone cross-eyed from my eyes bouncing around. Beautiful! I have always wondered though, if you float on a raft in a negative edge pool, will you go over the edge? **blows kisses** Deborah
oh,my thanks for sharing yet more delightful retreats- a talented designer- it is breathtaking! have a super day!!!
Gosh such a beautiful oasis! I also have a weakness for anything tropical. so relaxing!
Now these are some great sticks and stones anyone can toss my way. Thanks for sharing. xxoxo
I see four chairs there...is one of those for me? I can't get over that beaded (jeweled?) hanging piece over the bed with the grommeted curtain behind the headboard. What a great idea. Great photos.
You find the most amazing spaces. This makes me want to redo everything in minimal/natural!
Re: my last comment...I'm thinking water fall inspired? No?
Sticks and stones indeed! xv
Wow. These photos are amazing! Really beautiful. As Liz Lemon would say (on 30 Rock), "I want to go to there."
Girl I dont know where you find this stuff but it makes my mouth water every time;) French
Very unique and interesting. My favorite way the twinkle lights in the trees reflecting into the pool. How dreamy:)
Thanks for the link for the star light. I appreciate you doing that..
What I would give to have a bathroom like that. And the views. And the twinkling lights in the trees. That sure beats any place in Africa I've been to, that's for sure! :)
Wow - what a great discovry! So inspring! I am totally in love with that beaded 'headboard'! I want that in my room!!

Wow...now that is amazing!!
I love, love, love the pool with the twinkle lights all around...
How fabulous!!
Yum, yum, and YUM! I love the bathroom materials - it's so immediately grounding, and beautiful in such a primitive and pristine way. Dinner under the stars and twinkle lights is hard to beat. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I just cannot WAIT for summer to be in full swing!

Great stuff--in fact, I think she's been taking some tips from YOU, Linda--it's quite a bit like YOUR aesthetic, isn't it? I love your bathrooms! :)
Wows the soul!
Beautiful.
That is beautiful. I love all the lights, the earth tones, and it's oh so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I like your blog. I will be back.
Thanks Linda! I do find all my shells on Sanibel Island so we'll see what I come up with a little north of there.
We stayed at the marriott in Key West. It's the first time we haven't stayed at an Inn or B&B because we planned it so quickly. It was a nice hotel but I would rather be at a smaller place - somewher where we can here the roosters in the mornings :)
That is ANOTHER FAB location... aaaaah.... to live in a SPA!!!
oh...that pool with the lights!! yes, could float along here for many a moon...
To look at your blog ~~ is to feel like you are on vacation!!
