::cue somber music::
A freeze...
not the snow kind like many of you have lived through
but a freeze that kills tropical plants
blew through here this winter…
Much damage to repair
or mourn
So... my trusty new bug friend
Milo and I
with clippers and machete in hand
went to survey the damage
...and commence chopping
we’ve learned living here…through hurricanes
that nature is beautifully resilient
most things will come back with a vengeance.
that is good
But...
there is also a true beauty in what is left behind
So I brought some in
why not?
Milo was having a ball…
And then HE came
The end.

ed. note: Milo is fine and is being shipped away to the next destination on the Milo World Tour
No stuffed bugs were injured in the making of the post.
I'm pretty sure.

LOL! So sad to see that Milo is moving on.
I shed a little tear for your plants. That freeze looks like it hurt!
You are so funny! I loved MILO...send him back:)
So true about the resilience in plants. I know a friend who lives out in California, and she says that after the fires everything comes back so lush and full. So let's keep our fingers crossed for your plants.
Knew a dog had to enter the picture! Of course my cats love those little stuffed animals too.
Sorry to see all your damage. Ugh.
Soon you'll be pruning hard because everything is tooooooo lush.
Garden & Be Well, XO Tara
I just love your house...your yard...your dog. Ok...everything!! Even Milo.
Cute, Cute, and more cuteness from you all the time!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HA! Love Milo's new Florida hat. All the photos are so fabulous, I can't decide which one to steal for the link! Your poor dog looks so confused. So cute having Milo read the dog book. You are such a clever one. Thank you for the fun! **kisskiss** Deb
How come when you bring a dead plant indoors it looks so artistic? If I tried that, it would just look...dead.
Fun post!
How cute your dog is! And we have a lot of damage in our part of Florida, too. Dead leaves everywhere! Hope everything greens up and survives this strange winter! Love your beautiful home! ♥
So sorry to see your poor little plants looking so sad. I feel your pain! My beautiful blue agave here in Ojai got hit a few weeks back and her tips are brown and withering. But, you've turned a negative into a positive... love the centerpiece.... and keep smiling!
Love this post, and feeling much better about my tropicals, there is green, I see it way down there!
Milo would never make it at my house!
He would be Milo fluff and dust!
Love you, and your craziness!
Milo is a sport to help you out with the Spring cleanup.
Wonder if he will come to Oklahoma to help??
Beautiful photography!
crazy chick !!! Poor buggy !!! hugs to milo :(
Funny; I CAN RELATE MY LITTLE ONE KILLS ALL HIS BABIES, THEN SKINS THEM, PULLS THE STUFFING OUT AND RUNS AROUND THE HOUSE WITH THE "SKINS"........
HE HAS FLUFF IN HIS BEARD!
L.
The...remnant?...is beautiful on your table--perfectly in context!
[But sorry your plants had it tough this winter.]
It's kind of ridiculous how much I enjoy the Milo posts. But they do showcase your *visual* sense of humor, so I'm giving myself a pass.
Milo showed us a lot of beautiful things, in various conditions. Cut those plants down, fertilize and wait for the sun to kiss them back to health.
Too funny.
I know how that is to have to frost freeze your plants! I do it every April when I plant too soon.
I am sure they'll come back wtih a little TLC:)
OH NO ... no more Milo adventures??? I really enjoy your blog but I have to admit I've fallen for Milo. Is there any way I can continue to follow him as well as following you? lol
Milo is so cute, but your house in the background...too pretty! So sad about the frost. Mother Nature is really PO'ed right now I think.
Warmer days ahead, kelley
Oh I am so sorry about your yard! You worked so hard. The banana will come back but some of those others who knows? You dog slays me deader than a doornail. Love that dawg!!!
What a wonderful post! It made me smile the whole way through! Our warm weather has turned pretty cold and crispy as of late...hoping that things don't get too badly nipped. But you're so right, nature is very resilient. xoTrina
Funny, funny! That plant looks divine in your house! Sorry about all the damage though. I would just like to get rid of all the snow that is still here.
Too funny! For Bo's sake I'm glad that little bugger is movin' on!
Your bounty from your yard is beautiful!
joan
Sorry about all the frozen stuff in the garden! We deal with that every year up hear but.....I guess you know that :)
I think your dog is thinking he wants to PLAY! Cute pic
Sad about your plants and trees, but the whole post is so ridiculously entertaining...I am grinning as I type!
Milo will be missed... he's the only kind of bug I want in my plants!!!
I just trimmed away all the dead leaves of our ginger plants. Amazingly, there is a lot of new growth coming up from the base of the plant. But, alas, the crotons have bitten the dust. Oh well...time to start again. At least I had not replanted the front flower bed...this one is ready for new plantings...something bright and cheerful!
Jane (artfully graced)
Don't get this wrong, but I love when you get your machette out. It means you'll be getting this great decor idea that you'll share with us:)
What a wonderful piece for the table! Nature goes on, and on..., I watched one of these films (I think there are a couple of them now) that show what would happen if all people disappeared. And you get to see how plants would soon cover everything.
Haha, Linda. You're such a ham! Here's the perfect quote for you:
"Be silly. Be honest. Be kind."--Ralph Waldo Emerson.
That would be you to a T.
Important to see beauty in everything...living and dead. But girlfriend, my eyes had to do a "zoom-in" on the writing desk! and the chair next to it! Girl you must have one fly looking house.
This post made me rather sad, til I saw the pics of Milo and your doggie- what cuteness!
I visited south FL in January- loved that chilly weather, but then I heard the little lizards were dying, literally dropping dead from the cold. :(
Tropical plants do come back with a vengeance, prettier than before. It won't be long...!
hahaha love it, and you are right, it did leave some incredible beauty behind...what is the plant with the red branches and the berry looking things?
What a fun post!! Good to hear Milo survived his close encounter with the canine kind :-)
I hope the damage to your plants isn't too bad. Like you said, nature is pretty resilient, so they should be OK.
Kelly
Ha. Milo would have had a short life span in our house. :) So sorry to hear about all your freeze damage. I'm pretty sure my gardenia bush bit the dust this winter too. So sad about it.
Don't worry the plants they will be back! Except for the one sitting on your coffee table. Beautiful but definitely dead. Your house looks so lovely and Milo will be missed.
I love your coffee table and the dried arrangement! So lovely!! You really have an 'eye'!! I still think that blue bowl painting would look better at my house!! What is that red branching/berry plant anyway? Looks like coral from the ocean. I love it!!
I am sure your plants will be back!
Susan
Your blog is so much fun!
xoxo, Prefecta
Another Fab Day
Great story and lucky Milo to be spending time with you...this piece that you brought into the house is amazing!! and I can see how this will all come back, beautifully.
I have tips of tulips appearing...woo hoo!!
x..x
It's gonna be ALLL GOOOD!!! I promise!!!! :)
Bye Bye little Milo Man!!...bug...!!
OH, Edward and I shall miss Milo. Frankly, I don't think he'd fare very well with Edward, though.
I love it! Poor Milo...sure gets into some precarious places!
xx
This post made my day (thanks to your Great Dane), altho, I'm so sad to see your "birds" suffer. That's major weather when the coast suffers! Just love your doggie -- and Milo, too.
great photos and I'm sure Milo and your dog were great friends before he left. I can't wait to see him in Virginia...should arrive just for summer fun!!
