The lemon…lime? in the coconut…

A change from hotel searching...Phew! you say...I hear ya...I hear ya.

In the strange but true category

we have a sweet well decidedly sour gender confused lemon tree

species confused? Fruit confused?

Just plain ole’ Confrused Scooby.

But beautiful all the same.

We Love all of our babies...green or otherwise.

lemon 003

It is glorious in it’s yellow and green striped skin..and pink flesh.

It’s leaves proudly variegated.

Not your ordinary lemon

no siree.

But…This summer, a long new branch stretched and reached out…and out

lemon 009

And the fruit is different…very.

the leaves are different…it is a brother from another mother

so say I.

lemon 008

It smells lusciously like lime…looks like lime

Is certainly prolific this long branched peculiarity.

I dunno. Shaking head confused.

lemon 017

I brought it in…cut it

mixed it...

lemon 013

It’ll do. Oh...it'll do beautifully.

lemon 016

It’s still summer here and will be for months...and months

And we all need a cooling refreshing cocktail. No?

~Fill a glass with ice

add a nice shot of Limoncello…some sparkling water…and a squeeze of lemon

or lime.~

whatever.

And if you can help me figure out my tree sit-chi-a-tion

I’ll have one waiting for you.

Truly I will.

I think your original tree was grafted onto root-stock, and this branch must be a throw-back to that. I have a dwarf Meyer lemon, and all of a sudden last year, it sprouted this branch with much larger leaves--so that's what that sitch-er-atshun was about. But hey, I'm a writer, not a botanist!

We are of the same thought...I just got myself a glass of iced lime water! LoVe the photo of the limes with the blue in the background. Yummy. It could have been grafter...but I had a rose tree once that produced giant coral flowers and after ten years it suddenly sprouted one branch that had tiny little heirloom roses. Spooks in the garden. Endless summer here also.

Delicious photos and the beverage looks delightful, but months more of summer would have me in tears. Bring me autumn!

Ok..I am totally jealous! I would love to be able to grow a lemon/lime tree in my yard! But then it might force me to drink to many margaritas!

Farmgirl Paints said...

HA! Well it's confused. I bet it tastes delicious though:) I can't believe you have that in your yard. I'm so jealous!!!

That looks so yummy! It's an orange/lime? Never seen a fat round one like that before. Lovely to visit your blog!

Mary Kay and Deb...I was thinking that, particularly since it came from so low. But was amazed that it could be a Lime. But kinda fun picking lemon's and limes (oranges?)from the same tree!

I have a feeling...with the amount of fruit on the tree...that I will be making limoncello for Christmas gifts.

Thanks for your fun comments!

That's a new one to me. I grew up with a grove of Ponderosa lemon and Persian lime trees...some key limes, too. Nothing like yours...how cool!

Your limoncello with sparkling water sounds so yummy! I've been drinking basil and lime (or lemon) infused iced water this week...quite refreshing on a hot day!

lucky you, pink lemons and limes in one tree! mary kay is right, it was most likley grafted on a lime tree and its sporting an old branch so you can mix and match and your cocktails! i love the pink striped, mine is soooooooo non prolific, 3 lemons in 8 years, good thing i am not waiting for that perfect cocktail! gorgoeous pics as always!

jain, from onceinabluemoon, but who started foodwithstyle and is too lazy to sign out and be me again! come check out my new blog, its pretty food made by others!

It obviously was a graft. That is where they make a hybrid plant off of the root stock of another fruit tree. In your case, the Root stock aka "Mother Plant" is sprouting new growth. I do think it is most likely a lemon. Just give it time to ripen and go yellow. This same thing happened to me this winter -- I had a lovely flowering apricot tree and my husband cut it back a little too far. What appeared this winter was NOT an apricot, but a wild cherry. :-(

I'm not sure what it is, but it sure looks good in that glass with some ice! Especially now, as we start tiling another room!

Looks yummy! Don't you just love living in Florida? I love Buenos Aires, last time I visited I had the privilige of staying at the Alvear Palace Hotel, it was fantastic. The Four Seasons is also a great choice. The prices happen to be the best part.

Isn't that a "Cocktail Tree" ? I think it's supposed to have oranges, lemons and limes growing on it.

Karen Deborah said...

You've got a grafted tree and this branch came from below the joint perhaps, but I'll take a drink regardless you make it look so positively DIVINE!

There is a special drink made at the Valley Club in Montecito, CA made with this very type of lemon/lime.
It's fabuloso - they won't divulge - but it tastes a little like a Lemon Drop.
On another note - I've not been to Buenos Aires so don't know of a good place to stay there. It's on the list though - so if you find something - let me know.
Cheers!

I would love to see a lemon or lime or lemonlime growing here and watching the squirrels ruin all the fruit

as the do with any fruit tree we manage to have

...their little puckered face, they wouldn't know what hit 'em!
