And…since we didn’t win the lottery…

…It is back to the projects

not living in the projects so much…but working on projects.

The saga of the big butt chair continues

stage 1: complete….

IMG_4797

today

I will carefully tear off all the pieces and use

them as patterns to cut

then staple back on in all of it’s IKAT and linen glory!

I think the chair tried to escape and run last night. really.

IMG_4799

wish me luck.

Another find. 14 dollars at the local goodwill.

mid century credenza

IMG_4809

I had been keeping my eyes out for a long low cabinet for the LR

to take the place of the piano ...which will be moved.

IMG_4803

And this guy just jumped in the car.

it needs work….

and I am wondering about a laquer paint...

but can’t come up with a color

that floats my boat...yet.

IMG_4808

Whad’ya think?

IMG_4802

Keep playing the lottery

you say?

Yep.

Hear ya.

I love that mid century piece. I think It would look great in..., orange!? And white of course always works. Have you scrolled through the Before and Afters at Design Sponge? They feature plenty of revamped furniture pieces, quite inspirational.

Have a great Sunday!

Chair looks amazing - well, it clearly WILL when it's complete! Ka-CHING on the credenza - can't wait to see what you decide!

Love the lean lines with curves in front for detail/contrast.

Hmm. Outdoor paint & placed on covered terrace? Ha!

I'm usually the one finding thrifty deals. You are the queen this time.

Ah, so Big Butt Chair could handle the ikat. Did we ever doubt it was so?

The credenza is stunning, really. I am torn because I could see it being stunning in a high gloss but am grooving on its as-is organic vibe right now. [A little tlc on that end would help, of course.] Can't go wrong, either way, really, as your house has plenty of room for both.

I'm not working on jack right now, so am enjoying your creative energy.

I love this cabinet!!! I immediately thought of a dark turquoise colour when I saw it. Here's one from 'I Suwannee's website that is also a great colour:

$14.00???!!! I would have tackled you for that one--for sure. Have we seen the room your putting it in? That would definitely help knowing which direction to go. Good luck!

Look at you throwing together a cushion like it's no biggie...great job sewing, chica! I think that credenza is a FABULOUS find--DUDE, you have such a great eye for awesome stuff. I'm thinking orange for that puppy. You can do it! Be brave! :)

Your credenza was a fabulous find Linda - I know you'll breathe new life into it in your inimitable style. It almost has an Austin Powers/shagedelic quality!

LOOOOVVVVEEE the credenza. What a find. That is awesome. I have no doubt the perfect color will come to you in a dream, on a prayer or over morning coffee. You just never know when it's going to hit you. Have a great week.

Love the chair fabric. LOVE the idea of laquer. I am going to laquer my mahogany sideboard to fit in my slightly Bali style house in tropical Australia. It will be deep cherry red or intense ultramarine blue, haven't decided which. Can't wait to see what YOU do!

Wow, you're good, Linda! The cushion on the big butt is stitched up BEAUTIFULLY. Can't wait to see how you do the rest of the upholstery. The chair has great bones, quite a find! Keep us posted :)

That chair is going to be awesome! And I wish I lived some place where I could score some good flea market or garage sale finds like that!

love the ikat - haven't tried the re-upholsering yet but you have given me faith.

I love the ikat.

I agree with Sharon...orange for the credenza, so true to it's era.:-) Beautiful piece, by the way!!

I cant wait to see your chair...I am still obsessed with that fabric you picked, it is so fun!

$14 for a gem! Wow, I love the way the chair is turning out.

My local thrift store raised its prices recently. I am looking for something kinda of like what you found. LUCKY!!!

my vote is dk brown/black
and wreckless abandon of stunning colors in the drawers :)

It must need work because in the photos the wood looks really lovely. I do however love lacquer. Your asking us for color suggestions? You do jest. I think that fat butt chair would look great in a lacquer too some wild color that complements the fabric. White just seems way to boring for you. Whaddda bout some lime? or some red/orange or some insane shade or turquoise? You can do it if anybody can.

you know i love the big butt chair and it's fabric.

but the new piece is funkadelic.
really.
it will be such a hip touch.

Hey Ms L, me again.

No new thoughts on the credenza, just wanted to say thanks for popping over to visit (bear with me, this is project-related)...

While you were there, hope your eyes weren't too dazzled by the shell tile etc to notice the table and buffet?

They were the ones I refinished using the [Watco] Danish Oil you've been hounding me er INQUIRING about, ha. Know pics are so-so but enlargements give a slightly better sense of the glow.

So that's really for your OTHER project (pine table) but if you decide not to paint ye olde credenza I might consider it for that purpose.

[And srsly, I am not at all opposed to you painting that sucker! Would be a standout!]

LuLo Designs/Blue Eyed Tango said...

Great job on the chair...piping can be tricky with certain sewing machines, especially the thicker it is. I really like the credenza as well, very mod. Ultimately you'll be living with it so you have to love the color but I saw turquoise immediately and it's directly across the color wheel from your chair colors. Black is nice (and it appears you have some black pieces/chairs already) but I would really think about where you'll be putting it and it's function. If you have a TV on it....remember 1 square black box and 1 rectangular black box beneath it. Have fun....I know you will! Great finds!

Oh Linda, I see a red laquer paint on that piece...with some asian accessories on the top...but what do I know! I have been shopping craigs list for some bookcases for my LR when we get rid of our piano-which we have tried to sell on Craigs List and we can't even give it away! Good luck with you new piece.

I would be willing to pay for a tutorial on re-upholstering the chair. That's the only way I can figure doing my club chairs is taking each piece off and using it as a pattern...have you ever done it before?

What great finds! I lived in Baltimore for the past 20 years and took the junk shops for granted. Now that I'm in the boonies, I have none. :( Guess I'll live vicariously through you!
I think the cabinet would be great in the "Pantone Color of the Year", turquoise or a paler aqua shade. And I love the "big butt" chair! Good luck with both!
I'm adding your blog button to my blog...loving you already and want to share you with my friends!
