Chair love…or not?

So…I like the warmth of tropical colors

ya think?

Yesterday...as I’m passing by the David Francis workroom ...I spy it has

some bolts of fabric outside in the driveway for 4 buckeroos a yard.

a lovely chocolate cotton

striped muted linens.

I paw through...

and there in the bottom of the box is a wrinkled up mass of color

my color

and it feeeeels like liquid mercury

yep. used to play with it…in my hand…as a kidlet

explains lots.

They have 4 yards.

It hops in my car and comes home with me.

And commences to flirt

with my big butt chair

the one from habitat.

The one desperately in need of some love

ikat 010

Are they made for each other?

Or... should ole’ big butt keep on lookin’?

Poor loveless big butt.

I LIKE big butts and I cannot lie! I think this fabric would really make the the big butt POP! Ewe. Make the visual stop...I also played with liquid mercury as a child...

Wow, beautiful fabric, this is a favorite. Perfect!

OMG... I could cry they're so PERFECT together. Pick up that phone and call your upholsterer right this second!!! Seriously, don't question the design-gods... it was 'meant' to be!!

ahhh, the mercury thing "does" explain a lot!! (you can tell I'm feeling better as I'm only sassy when I'm healthy;)!

I concur. They go together like peanut butter & jelly.

A fabric you like, and got for a steal plus a chair you love and want to refurbish? This is definitely a match made in design heaven!

I love it, Linda! Will you upholster it yourself, or send it out?

Linda@ Lime in the Coconut said...

Lisa and Joan...The upholsterer will probably be me. But I will have the cushion softened...and maybe have them do that part.

Still deciding...causr the fabric could work on a number of things around here!

Big butt pop. Oh No.

Peanut butter and jelly....I like that!

I forgot about the big butt chair! That fabric is gorgeous. Love the colors. And even if you decide not to use it on the BBC I'm sure you'll still find plenty of great ways to use it.

Love it. Big butt would look FABULOUS in it. DO IT!!!

You've been looking for a while and then fate intervenes with this bargain Ikat and you're asking us if you should go for it?! You kidder.

CLEARLY this pairing was meant to be. Though I suppose you could drape the fabric elsewhere and see if you miss it on Big Butt. Nothing like loss to solidify opinions....

Rut-ro... I'm thinking big butt is going to need more than four yards of fabric... yes??

alison giese Interiors said...

Without a doubt - match made in fabric heaven! And I'm BEYOND envious of your find!!!

Maya @ Completely Coastal said...

It's fab..., and if you go for it, I'd love to see how you do it!

Linda@ Lime in the Coconut said...

I thought about needing more than 4 yards...I think 6 ish. I could do the outside (back outside arms) in a coordianting linen (orange...lime...)

Just thinking aloud.

abso-FREAKIN-lutely use this gorgeous fabric

what a happy place to plunk a butt!

It's lovely fabric ... it truly is ... BUTT if you are going to keep Big Butt in that place underneath that painting, than I vote NO to the fabric. I think you can do better! And I know I am in the minority here ... butt, I just don't think the two compliment eachother. Let us know what you do with that fabric ... I know it'll be great! And I do love that big butt chair!

You should go for it! If this is your color, you'll feel happy everytime you see it. I don't think that grey will do the same for you?

Have a great Sunday!

DUDE! Do you KNOW what that fabric sells for?! You may has well have stolen it at $4 a yard! It's gorgeous, and couldn't be more perfect right there on Big Butt. I'm loving the green linen idea too. Or orange. I'm easy. :)

Love the fabric!!! It definitely would look lovely on BBC...even if you needed to use coordinating fabric to complete the job. Please show how you do it...

AND please share the whole painting. The colors intrigue me! These are my favorite colors, too!!!

Ha! We used to try to break those "ol' timey" themometers, just to play with the mercury...yep...at least in my case, it could be a reason...;-).

Did you know "Mad As a Hatter" comes from the affects on hat makers who used mercury when making hats?

I love that fabric...perfect for the big butt chair!

SarahWhite said...

Like Joan...I could cry! It is so perfect together and I promise you...I saw some of that on Ebay and about had a fit over it. I have a somewhat similiar chair I bought from the Junior League sale this past spring and considered using it. I decided to continue looking for something a bit more in keeping with my room. Seriously...you KNOW that is so YOU. I think it will be too much with the babies painting though. I will still accept it at this late date. Yes...I will. Ha...just had a thought...can totally picture that B.I.G. pup of yours draped all over it...what a color statement it will be then! He. :)

La Petite Gallery said...

Love the colors and it will be easy to work with. Are you covering it yourself? Wonder if you have the yardage. Goes well
with the painting.
Have fun. Yvonne

Perfect! I would sit in old big butte(!!) and soak up that gorgeous interior, under that tropical pineapple. I'm sewing this weekend and bringing the color of the tropics to our cold white world.

DO IT,DO IT, DO IT.

i started my career at
fs schumacher in nyc about a thousand years ago.
some of the people i worked with in nyc are now working down here at the dania beach showroom. schumacher has the finest quality fabrics....no worries on the 'wear' or 'rub' factor.

do it, it is gorgeous.
xx

Renée Finberg said...

ps
you may need more fabric than that.
if so, maybe do the seat cushion in a solid.
*you could even use a kid glove -
hot colored leather on the seat
since this is a velvet fabric.
the cushion is what wears out on a chair like that.

*gorgeous chair.

Oh. Dayum. Renee has a point. Here I was thinking of doing the seat and inside in that fab and the outside in another.

WOW....YOU guys are SO FULL OF INFO. WHAT did we possibly do before blogs? What?

Thanks for the thumbs up...I'm ready to go forth.

Well kinda sorta ready.

I'm a libra AND a middle child.

We deliberate. Lot's.

LOVE and the two fabrics will look fantastic! Perrrrrrfect!

Renae Moore said...

I LOVE IT! And if you need more fab, another option is to do the back in a solid. or a coordinating stripe!

Can't wait to see! I wish I knew how to upholster...I have 2 wings at the upholsterer right now, and it's expensive!

Beautiful fabric, perfect for this chair. I'd love to see it reupholstered. I'd have the cording redone in a solid (maybe chocolate brown) to make it really dramatic!
